About me

I am a qualified animal behaviourist and dog trainer based and operating in Lincolnshire, Oxfordshire, and neighbouring counties. Enquiries outside of these areas are warmly welcomed.

Animals have always been a huge part of my life especially cats, dogs and horses. I have always had a passion for understanding their behaviour and have been lucky enough to have been trained by some of the world’s leading trainers and behaviourists. I do this job because there is nothing more rewarding than seeing you overjoyed at the improvement in your pet’s behaviour.

I am a fully qualified trainer with the Institute of Modern Dog Trainers (IMDT), and hold an MSc in Clinical Animal Behaviour (distinction) from the University of Lincoln. This is one of only two courses in the UK approved by the Association for the Study of Animal Behaviour (ASAB) to become a Certified Clinical Animal Behaviourist (CCAB) of which I am working towards Level 2.

I am a provisional member of the Association of Pet Behaviour Counsellors (APBC), which means having gained the relevant academic qualifications I am gaining the practical experience necessary for full membership.

I am a member and supporter of the Universities Federation for Animal Welfare.

I am fully insured with Pet Business Insurance.

Services

INdIVIDUAL TRAINING SESSION £50

Individual training sessions are private training sessions where we focus on an area of training you would like extra support with. These sessions are beneficial for dogs who find group classes stressful or simply because you prefer private training sessions.

Example issues requiring a 121 training session:

  • Recall (e.g. your dog doesn’t come back when called)

  • Pulling on the lead

  • Jumping up

  • Begging for food

behaviour consultation £135

Not all issues are suitable for a training session, some require a much more detailed analysis of the history of the dog’s behaviour and health.

Example issues requiring a behaviour consultation:

  • Separation anxiety (your dog struggles to be left alone)

  • Aggressive behaviours (e.g. towards people or other dogs)

  • Noise fears (e.g. fireworks or other loud noises)

  • Abnormal repetitive behaviours (e.g. tail chasing or shadow chasing)

  • House soiling

Step 1.

phone call

An opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have.

You can go away and think about it or we can book an appointment in.

Step 2.

THe training session

This usually takes place in your home or at an agreed location. Training sessions are for 1 hour.

I will advise a training plan which I guide you through so you are comfortable and confident practising it on your own.

I will send you (either by post or email) a written copy of the training plan for your records.

“ Vicky’s guidance has been invaluable and she has helped us bring on Holly so quickly. Everyone we meet comments on what a happy, calm and well adjusted puppy we have and can’t believe how well trained she is! ”

Step 1.

phone call

It’s not easy deciding on the right behaviourist so this way you get to speak to me and ask any questions about the process.

There is no obligation or pressure to book after the phone call.

Step 2.

  • history form

  • vet referral FORM

A history form is completed and this gives me all the information I need to make an initial assessment of your dog and the areas I want to explore and focus on in our consultation.

A growing percentage of behaviour cases have a medical element either causing or contributing to them. The vet referral form allows me to see if there is anything in your dog’s medical history I need to be aware of. This is standard practice for any reputable behaviourist, and a requirement of the professional bodies I am affiliated with. I am happy to contact your vet directly with your permission if that is more convenient.

Step 3.

home visit

This usually takes place in your home and takes between 1 to 3 hours depending on the complexity of the problem.

I will advise a behaviour modification plan which I will explain and guide you through. You will have the opportunity to practise all aspects of this until you feel comfortable and confident.

I use up-to-date scientifically proven methods which are kind and effective. Everything I advise is tailored to the individual needs of you and your dog.

I will send you (either by post or email) a written report of my assessment and the behaviour modification plan.

I am then available to you for a 2nd visit if needed, and over the next 3 months for any support and guidance you need by phone or email.

(£135 includes home visit, report, 2nd visit, 3 months support)
